Diaries of Adam and Eve
author Mark Twain

Thursday, December 4, 2008 6 pm
Facilitator: Jim Dyer
Retired Professor of English, MVCC

About the Author

Samuel Clemens (pen-name Mark Twain), lived from 1835 to 1910 and authored many books and short stories in his lifetime. Well known for the classics The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, his wit and humor are uniquely Twain. Since his death, many books by this great storyteller have become treasured American Classics.

About the Facilitator

Jim Dyer, a native of Utica, attended Utica College on the G.I. Bill after Navy service in the 1950s. Jim received a B.A. in English from Utica College, M.S. in English Education at Syracuse University, and Ph.D. in English at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Jim began teaching at Proctor High School in the 1960s. After 5 years, he moved a few hundred yards to MVCC where he taught for 28 years, retiring in 1996. Since then he has continued to teach as an adjunct, usually teaching two courses per semester. He has been married to the former Madeline Nicotera for almost 49 years. Mark Twain has been a matter of lifelong interest since reading Tom Sawyer as a boy.
