Hot Buttered Rum
High Altitude Progressive Bluegrass
Saturday, January 24, 2009
8 pm Museum Root Sculpture Court
The undeniably hip and fresh sound of Hot Buttered Rum weaves together the grounded traditions of folk and bluegrass with the modern influences of blues, jazz, and rock. The group’s magnetic onstage chemistry, musical versatility and prolific songwriting have brought them widespread appeal. Dedicated to achieving its musical goals in an environmentally sensitive manner, Hot Buttered Rum tours the country in vehicles that run on vegetable oil and biodiesel instead of fossil fuel products. Many of their songs seek to raise awareness about the socially and environmentally volatile era in which we live. Hot Buttered Rum seeks to satisfy their audience’s minds, hearts and dancing feet with through their actions and their uplifting music.

The Freddy Cole Quartet
Smooth, Smoky Jazz
Saturday, February 28, 2009
8 pm Museum Root Sculpture Court
Virtuoso pianist and jazz vocalist Freddy Cole captivates listeners with his refined presence and intimate singing style. With the panache of Duke Ellington and a voice like raw silk, he has emerged from the awesome shadow cast by his brother, Nat "King" Cole. His suave, elegant and articulate phrasing has been compared to Frank Sinatra and Billie Holiday. Through several tours of the US, Europe, South America and the Far East, Cole has risen to the highest ranks of America's art form with his singular charm and his matchless musical sophistication.
