The study of human form is essential for every art student. This course emphasizes the interrelationships within the figure. Gestural drawing, contour drawing and other methods of recording the figure are the foundation of this course. A nude model will be used.

This course begins with the basic elements of drawing – line, gesture, mark, mass, shape, value and texture – with emphasis on observation from life. In addition to studying drawing as a means to record and interpret reality, students will learn to appreciate drawing as an art form in its own right. Subject matter will be explored through a variety of technical approaches using pencil, charcoal, ink and conte crayon.
